Being different was reason for annihilation in a mechanistic society. It is steamroller of uniformity which irons out all attempts to be individual, to be natural and so to be different.

Europe's imposition of itself on other parts of the world in the 19th and 20th century created several copies of them all over. But this was effect of the 'Columbus within' who declared that he has discovered a NEW land and the natives must either steamrolled to become like the invaders or should be destroyed for the larger Good of larger number of people!!
